It Actually Can Crush Whole Ice Cubes – When I make smoothies, the first step is to crush ice cubes into a snow like consistency, even before adding any liquid. The first time I used this Oberly travel blender, I dropped in 3 whole ice cubes… regular size, not from the included blue tray… and pulsed the blender as I gently shook it. The resulting blended ice looked identical to the results I get from my full size electric countertop blender. I’m very happy about that.

The instructions say that the initial charge takes approximately 3 hours, but it was less than half that time to full charge. They claim that the initial charge holds for 6 months. I have used it everyday for a week and haven’t noticed any decrease in power. To power on you must hit the switch twice, it took me a bit to get the timing down, it take two quick taps. The only downside to this blender is the parts are not dishwasher safe. The reservoir is plastic, I would prefer glass. The blade is attached to the base which is not submersible, so it’s difficult to clean. I’m very cognizant of the power button while cleaning the blades. The danger is reduced by the two depression start sequence, but still, a hazard exists.
